Job Title Early Childhood Educator Assistant – After School Program (Temporary)

Location Doig River First Nation

Reports To ECE Supervisor

GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

The Early Childhood Educator Assistant (ECEA) reports to the ECE Supervisor and is responsible for

assisting in implementing early childhood programs relating to the Aboriginal Head Start and infant

development programs and will be responsible for the administration of the on-reserve after-school

program. Working collaboratively with the Early Childhood Educators and the ECE Supervisor, the

incumbent will provide improved outcomes for DRFN children for health, social development, early

learning and education through the early childhood, infant care and after-school programs.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILIITES

1. Supports early childhood programs including Aboriginal Head Start and infant development, and

after-school programs. Will be responsible for after-school program development.

2. Supports cultural initiatives in alignment with Tsaa? che ne dane culture and Beaver Language for all

ECE programming.

3. Ensures clear, professional and friendly communications with all staff, children, parents, volunteers

and others utilizing the facility.

4. Takes responsibility for ensuring the safety of program participants and other users of the facility.

5. Conducts administrative duties as required and other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience

• Minimum two years’ experience working in early learning and/or childcare center

• Responsible Adult certification is an asset

• Bus driving experience is an asset

• Aboriginal Head Start and/or Indigenous Support Worker experience an asset

• Experience working with diverse families

• Experience working with infants, toddlers and children with complex needsCultural Understanding

• Understanding, appreciation of and respect for the diverse nature of the Tsaa? che ne dane

culture and its’ people

• Ability to incorporate a grass roots mentality into all programming including utilization of

traditional Tsaa? che ne knowledge and Beaver language

Skills

• Highly self-motivated and able to work independently with confidence and efficiency

• Demonstrate integrity, empathy, trust, respect and understanding while always acting with

professionalism

• Ability to work as a member of a team, within a larger community

• A belief in and respect of competency of young children

• An understanding of the impact adult interactions and relationships have on the development,

learning, sense of identify and overall well-being of children

• Responsible for identifying and upgrading skills necessary to perform job duties

Additional Qualifications

• Valid Driver’s License required

• Clean criminal record check

• Trauma informed care training

• Emergency Childcare First Aid plus CPR-AED

• Valid First Aid Certificate with CPR level B or C

• Food Safe

• Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS)

WORKING CONDITIONS

• This position requires the incumbent to work in the community. A personal vehicle is required

and reimbursement for travel will be provided at $0.70/km

• Hours will be 10:30am – 5:30pm Monday through Thursday, up to 30 hours per week
