Our youth have chosen a name for their group: “Naahtane’ Ts’idaaghae” (Thunder Kids). Our youth group is very active and gathers to undertake a variety of activities through out the year. Throughout the spring, summer and fall, youth gather with elders to go on hikes and learn more about their natural environment as well as Beaver customs and traditions such as identifying animals and food plants, medicinal uses of plants, among many other things.
The youth have also had opportunities to participate in a youth equine program, go out for bowling nights, go skating on spring break.
We recently had a Career Cruising Workshop with Northern Lights College. Seven of our youth did an assessment to figure out what careers are best suited to them.
We have also had a Language Bingo with Shirley and Annie Acko at youth night and everyone had a lot of fun while learning Danezaa-zaage’.
We are working with School District #60 on improving student support. There are regular Indigenous Education Committee meetings so we can collaborate on behalf of the families from DRFN.
