Introduction

Doig River First Nation (DRFN) and the Province of British Columbia (BC) are working together to create a modernized Joint Land Use Plan (JLUP) to guide how lands and resources in the DRFN Planning Area are used and protected for future generations, while honoring treaty rights and supporting a vibrant, sustainable economy.

This government-to-government process to develop a JLUP will be informed by DRFN’s Land Use Plan Nan wúújq t’aa dâah’aa? completed in 2024), provincial interests, and public interest. A draft plan is anticipated to be complete in 2026.

Interim Measures

Interim measures are temporary legal tools that prevent certain new resource tenures from being issued and prevent certain development activities from occurring in specific areas, while longer term planning work takes place. They are generally put in place in areas of significant ecological sensitivity or cultural importance.

Within the DRFN Planning Area, interim measures will be used in Enhanced Planning Area – Priority 1 (K’ih tsaaʔdze Tribal Park), to prevent new resource development impacts while we conduct the planning work for the Joint Land Use Plan. Interim measures will be considered in Enhanced Planning Area – Priority 2 areas.

Interim measures will not impact public access or recreational use of land.

Interim measures do not affect industrial activities being done under existing authorizations.

Planning Stages

Get Involved

Engagement and communication are a priority throughout the Planning Stages. We are working to ensure that rights holders, stakeholders, and the public are informed and engaged about the JLUP process and objectives, what the plan involves, and how it will shape future use of the area.

Land management has the best chance of success when it is broadly understood and informed by multiple sources of information. Your input is critical to ensuring we have effective plans.
