Family Wellness Worker
Doig River First Nation
Rose Prairie, BC
Support Stronger Families. Nurture Resilience. Create Lasting Connections.
Help children, youth, and families find the support, resources, and connections they need to thrive.
Doig River First Nation (DRFN) is a Dane-zaa community committed to supporting the well-being of its members through culturally grounded, family-centred, and community-based approaches. The Nation’s Health & Wellness services focus on strengthening families, supporting children and youth, promoting community wellness, and helping members access the resources and services they need to thrive.
DRFN is seeking a Family Wellness Worker to work directly alongside families, helping them identify their strengths, needs, goals, and available resources. Reporting to the Wellness Lead – Social Work, this role provides practical and ongoing support through family mentoring, parenting guidance, home visits, referrals, service navigation, outreach, and coordinated supports. The role combines office-based work with direct engagement with community members and occasional fieldwork and out-of-town travel.
The role is particularly focused on helping children and families remain connected to family, Dane-zaa culture, language, identity, community, and Nation, while supporting family preservation, reunification, kinship care, and other family-based approaches.
Why This Role Stands Out?
- A Role Across Generations: Support children, youth, young adults, and families, giving the role a broader family and life-stage focus than a position limited to one client group.
- Culturally Rooted Practice: Incorporate Dane-zaa culture, language, traditional knowledge, Elders, and land-based approaches into wellness work where appropriate and community-directed.
- Work Beyond a Single Service: Gain exposure to a range of family and social needs, including mental health, addictions, family violence, housing, financial stability, education, and parenting.
- Meaningful Community Contribution: Help deliver workshops, education sessions, outreach, and prevention initiatives that contribute to family resilience, positive parenting, child development, and youth wellbeing.
Qualifications:
- Relevant Education: Diploma or degree in Social Work, Child and Youth Care, Human Services, Indigenous Studies, Community Development, Family Support, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Direct Community Experience: Minimum two years of experience working with First Nations children, youth, families, or communities.
- Family & Child Welfare Knowledge: Knowledge of Indigenous approaches to family wellbeing, cultural continuity, family preservation, and community connection, along with familiarity with Bill C-92 and BC child and family service systems.
- Additional Experience: Experience with MCFD or Indigenous child and family service organizations, home visits, parenting support, family mentoring, or working alongside Elders and cultural knowledge holders is an asset.
- Requirements: First Aid certification or willingness to obtain, valid Class 5 driver’s licence, acceptable Driver’s Abstract, Vulnerable Sector Screening, ability to travel, and flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required.
Compensation:
- The position offers an annual salary of $80,000–$95,000.
- The position requires a personal vehicle, with travel reimbursed at $0.70 per kilometre.
