Job Overview

Job Title: Summer Public Works Assistants 

Department: Community Development

Location: Doig River First Nation, Rose Prairie, BC

Reports To: Public Works Manager

General Job Description

This temporary casual position will assist the Community Development Department with Public Works activities for all Doig River First Nation land parcels as directed by their supervisor the Public Works Manger. The department will be looking for one to two individuals to fill these positions. 

Duties and Responsibilities

Key Functions:

  • Assists with Public Works utility, road and drainage work as per direction
  • Assists the Community Projects Supervisor with yard maintenance as directed by the Public Works Manager
  • Assist with clean up activities at the Public Works yard and other-directed areas in the community
  • Assists with Public Works maintenance and summer capital projects 
  • Activities will include working around residential and commercial buildings, various land parcels and potentially in remote locations
  • Support the Community compliance Officer on education and engagement with the community 

Reporting Structure

The Summer Public Works Assistants report directly to the Public Works Manager who in turn reports to the Community Development Manager. 

Qualifications

  • The successful candidate must demonstrate maturity, ability to problem solve and communicate effectively 
  • The successful candidate must be 16 years of age or over as per the WCB regulations for this scope of work
  • Valid driver’s license and an insured vehicle in good condition suitable for travel.  
  • Valid skid steer certification 
  • Dependable, motivated and demonstrates a strong work ethic.  
  • Ability to collaborate and work effectively as part of a team.  

Working Conditions

This position requires the incumbent to:

  • Able to perform physical labour work 
  • Work will generally take place directly in the community of Doig River First Nation; however work may be required at alternative site locations 
  • Reimbursement for travel will be provided at $0.70/ kilometer. 
  • Hours: Monday – Friday, 9:00AM – 4:30PM. 
  • Duration: June – August with potential for alternative start and end dates.
